Before the current kyu/dan belt system was utilized, there was a
parallel ranking system called Shogo. This word translates as “title”.
These titles are awarded ONLY to those who actively instruct and are issued independently of any belt ranking. In other words, earning a minimum rank does not instantly confer these upon an individual. In fact, for a TTRKS instructor to use one of these titles they must be actively teaching Tatsu Te Ryu Karate,
and be officially appointed to the title by the founder.
An awarded Shogo is authorized with a menjo (certificate), and we also commemorate this occasion by awarding a special obi to the Shogo recipient.
Tatsu Te Ryu Karate Systems officially awards the following shogo:
Sempai, Sensei, Tashi, Renshi, Kyoshi, and Hanshi.
For those who have the answered the calling to further this art
